·Inside the shipping package, your painting will be wrapped & ready for gift giving!
·This piece will be protected by a high gloss varnish. It has a glossy sheen that resembles frame glass, so this painting looks great with or without a frame!
·This piece would look adorable in a small office, guest bathroom, or that awkward little wall every house seems to have.
As most of you know, I don't have any "formal" art training. I learned a lot from my amazing high school art teacher over a decade ago, but otherwise, I'm what they call a self taught artist. I've mostly learned about what goes into making a good painting through YouTube videos & following the journeys of other artists who inspire me. I also have an amazing mentor- Marilyn Garrett. I wouldn't be posting this today if it wasn't for her constant support, advice & inspiration. You should definitely go check out her work on Facebook or Instagram
@Marilyngart !
A lot of people don't care for abstract art because they don't want to have to be told or left to figure out what it means. But that's the thing about most abstract work, is that it represents emotions & feelings that aren't translatable, but I will try!
This passed Sunday, on the first day of summer, I saw my first lightning bugs of the year. I don't get to see them here in Ohio as often as I did back home in the south. Lighting bugs always make me nostalgic about my childhood. Summer nights riding around on my bike, climbing the old crab apple tree in our neighborhood & running around at dusk catching lighting bugs in my empty Gatorade bottles. I feel really bad now about how many I must have suffocated when my parents forgot to remind me to poke holes in the bottles!
Fireflies/Lightning Bugs are said to symbolize hope, guidance, inspiration & awakening. I find that very fitting for this stage of my life. For a long time I had abandoned all hope- I had taught myself that if you never have hope or 'get your hopes up' in the first place, then you'll never be hurt or disappointed.
You think, 'I can't be hurt by people that I never opened my heart to or screwed over by people I never trusted anyways.' And while it's true, it's also a lonely way to live. You end up not trusting anyone, including yourself.
I'm by no means in any position to give life advice or act like I have my ducks in a row. I don't even have ducks, I have indecisive squirrels who get squashed in the middle of the road trying to make a decision. I have more dark days than not, & I still have road rage like a demon.
There's just so many people out there who have been a lantern for me in my darkness, so I feel like I should return the favor when I am in a good place.
I hope y'all enjoy this one, & I hope you'll try to be someone's lightning bug today ✨
