"Hold Steady my darling, this life is but a dream."
I feel like a lot of my best paintings come from just messing around with extra paint on my pallette. I really don't like wasting paint & it's also a good way for me to wind down after working all day & night on the detail stages of a large painting.
I actually try to make sure I always have small canvas boards or watercolor paper on hand for this reason, but I've also been making it a point to have smaller & more budget friendly paintings available.
These little paintings are also the perfect size for me to set into my travel painting box, so that I can paint while still spending time with my man, keep up with my TV shows & also get some time outside without feeling unproductive.
I don't know where this place in the painting is, but I dream of it often & I hope that I get to visit it in person one day.
I wanted the metallic paint to take center stage in this piece while using it to work on my bird shapes & perspective. There's just something so healing about that 'Golden Hour' time of day. When the light hits me that time of day, I feel like it warms my soul. For a few moments, I feel like everything's gonna be alright & my burdens aren't so heavy. I could even go as far to say in those small moments, I feel God's presence & life feels simpler.
The transition to being an artist full time has been a little weird. I thought I would be ready to dive in & start slaying my projects, but to be honest, I've found myself anxious because I'm so used to working & manual labour. I feel like I've been cleaning & organizing my house more than anything because it doesn't feel normal to me working from a desk chair all day! I've only ever worked at restuarant & dog kennel jobs, where I'm on my feet all day & lifting. Don't get me wrong- painting for 9+ hours a day is no cake walk- I go to bed with my neck, shoulder, hand & back screaming. I wake up with cricks in my neck & cramping legs if I didn't stretch after. I'm just saying I'm just used to painting being my 'hobby' & it's been more difficult than I anticipated getting a new groove & routine.
So this piece has been my reminder to hold steady, be patient & keep taking things one day at a time. I hope it makes you feel the same ๐
