Yin & Yang
Hello world! I hope that all of you had a great start to the new year!
I've had mostly good problems lately- things are going great with my artwork & at the moment I'm on track with having my "Twilight Time" pieces ready to release February 27, 2021!
For me, this month has been a time of reflection & restoration. Honestly, I've been doing more sketching/drawing than painting lately. My series, "Twilight Time" represents endings & beginnings, & I feel like these paintings are my markers for the ending of my landscape phase & the beginning of work that will be more complex & have more elements for interpretation.
Don't worry! I will still be accepting commissioned landscapes, & it's not like I won't be inspired by the beautiful, summer sunsets to come ☺🌻🌞
However, I just feel the pull to challenge myself & feel like this is the time. I don't want to be boxed in & just be known as a landscape painter (not that there is anything wrong with that!!) because I have so many visions of amazing ideas that involve animals & humans. And I just really need to be able to get them on canvas sooner than later! However, I have a lot of work & skill honing to do, so be expecting a lot of sketches in your newfeed soon ☺
It has been challenging finding a balance between work, my art, making time for loved ones, keeping up with a household & self care. But all of you keep my fire burning & I'm forever grateful for all of your support!
I'm a normal person just like you & everyone else. I'm not a professional or fine artist. My 'studio' is the corner of my spare bedroom that has the most atrocious laminate flooring I've ever seen. My education ends with a high school diploma, & I've been working labor jobs since I was 14.
I've been employed at the same company for over 10 years. Of course there have been changes, & I have worked at many of their locations. But at the end of the day, I've basically been doing the same thing every day for most of my life. I just can't live the rest of my days on this earth working at a dead end job, eating sleeping, paying the bills just to be broke again on payday.
So, please don't mistake my positive attitude on social media as me acting like I have it all together! I, in fact, have absolutely nothing even somewhat together 😆 I don't even know if I'm releasing my first series in a traditional or 'right' way. I honestly just needed something to look forward to & some warm colors to replace the gloomy grays of Ohio winter. My paintings are a safe place from the atrocities of this world & politics. Like Bob Ross once said, "If you want to see terrible things, turn on the news."
My art is also how I express the feelings, thoughts & ideas that can't be expressed in words or that our society likes to turn a blind eye to. It's what I look forward to & what keeps me going. It's what makes me feel excited. It's fun. Going to my soul crushing job, going to the grocery store again, the endless laundry & vacuuming- none of that is fun, none of that is exciting.
We all need something to look forward to. So no matter what that is for you, even if it's a cup of tea & your guilty pleasure show, I urge you to do that today! If not for yourself, then for me ☺ We can't let 'the man' grind us down. We need more childlike fun in this world, especially now. I refuse to accept that we're just supposed to grind our lives away working dead end jobs & paying all of that money to 'taxes' & conglomerate companies.
My goal with this particular blog post isn't to promote, but to help you see me as a normal person & help you feel like you're not alone. I just want to inspire people to join me in pursuing our passions 💜
I hope everyone has a great month & enjoys their Valentine's Day 💘
